Target Market Italy
SQ•ENERGY focuses on renewable energy development projects in Italy, driven by the country's outstanding market characteristics.
STREAMLINED PERMITTING AND REGULATED POWER SALES
The Italian government heavily supports the energy transition, having established simplified authorization procedures and a favourable regulatory environment for developers, operators, and investors.
Grid Priority: Network operators are required to grant priority access to renewable energy plants.
GSE („Gestore Servizi Energetici“ = Energy Services Manager): Manages the off-take and sale of generated electricity for producers.
Simplified Procedures: Fast-track permitting for PV plants up to 20 MW (in industrial areas or farmer-owned sites).
25 % HIGHER YIELDS IN NORTHERN ITALY ALONE COMPARED TO THE GERMAN AVERAGE
Italy’s southern latitude is a major competitive advantage for PV development. Our pilot project in Ravenna, Northern Italy, will generate approximately 25% more electricity than an average PV plant in Germany.
Comparison of specific yield (kWh/kWp):
Ravenna vs. Germany
Ravenna: 1,652 kWh/kWp
Germany (national average): 965 kWH/kWp
Performance: +58 % specific yield
+58 % higher yield
ITALY’S ELECTRICITY MIX OFFERS AMPLE ROOM FOR RENEWABLES
From January to September 2024, Italy generated approximately 42 % of its total electricity from gas. Alongside hydropower – which is already largely tapped – wind and solar offer significant room for growth.

ITALY TARGETS 79.9 GW OF PV CAPACITY BY 2030
According to the National Integrated Climate and Energy Plan (NECP/PNIEC), Italy aims for an installed PV capacity of 79.9 GW by 2030. To reach this goal, an average of 7 GW of new capacity must be installed every year starting in 2024.
